I want to use old laptop as display for iMac

So my old set up before I acquired my new 27" iMac consisted of a crappy Dell laptop and an even crappier Gateway monitor.

My goal is to be able to use both as a display for my iMac. As far as I know, all I need to use the Gateway monitor is a Mini Displayport male to VGA female and a VGA cord.

In terms of the laptop, my idea was to just plug in a VGA splitter into the previously mentioned adapter and plugging the monitor into one connector and the laptop into the other, but I have a funny feeling that is not going to work.

In short, is there a somewhat simple way of doing this?

You could use the adapter for the monitor and Screenrecycler for the laptop.

Since the Dell notebook will most likely not have a video input, a VGA splitter is not going to work. With the Dell you need something like AirDisplay.
