i want upgrade to 4.0.1 from 3.1.2 but...

i want to upgrade to 4.0.1 from 3.1.2 on my 3GS

i have put it in DFU mode, and shift>restore, chose the IPSW(4.0.1) i wanted and clicked away. and gave my a error 3194


the filename i am using is (iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw)
and it has a old bootrom

everything is legit whats wrong? is it because its digitally signed by apple now we cant use it or what?

and i dont really want to put it on 4.2.1

has cydia saved your blobs?

if you've answered yes to both, upgrading is simple:
1. download tiny umbrella
2. plug your phone into your computer, fire up TU and click "save SHSH" and TU will pull your blobs from the cydia server.
3. click "enter recovery"
4. click "start TSS server"
5. load itunes, shift + restore and navigate to the 4.0.1 software you downloaded

Yes, run TSS server on TU and retry the upgrade in iTunes, that should do it

You can no longer save the SHSHs for anything but 4.2.1, you are too late (As TU told you), the OP saved his SHSHs when Apple where signing them.

Afraid to say that you're grasping the situation better than most newbies. Check out the devteam blog for the latest info. Of course, the hacks forum will talk about the latest developments too.
If you feel like vacationing in Canada, you can go to the Apple store while there and buy a factory unlocked phone. It costs about the same as a contract free phone, but you'll never have to worry losing your unlock.

cool, i was pretty sure but wanted it spelled out... untethered jb is out so unlock can't be too far behind
