I was just given a macbook pro a1226 mid/late 2007. I can get my wired and wireless internet to connect ok, but trying to use safari won't let me open any pages. Says Safari can't establish a secure connection. I know I'm missing something in the setup but where?

I betting you have a certificate problem and can't visit any https website(which is most of them these days) . Is the date and time set correctly? What OS are you running? Can you update Safari?

Check Date & Time setting first, make sure they’re correct.
Then update to the most recent software available for that computer.
