I wanted bigger watch, and the AW8 was $60 off for the Memorial Day sale.

I don’t hate the midnight as much as I thought. Enjoying the 45mm screen.

Got too impatient to wait for the AW9. 😂

Oh well. I’m sure two years of this 8 will be just fine since I could have stuck with the 6 another few years if necessary.

That’s all. Have a nice day.

I bought the 8 instead of the ultra. Now I want the ultra too. I am a watchaholic. I have about 40-50 of them. Everything from Rolex, Breitling etc to timex and everything in between. I have three smart watches including my AW8. They all have good and bad points. But mostly good.

Totally get this. I bought the AW8 when it first came out having made the decision that it did everything I need. Because I’m interested in reading about Mac technology etc, the Ultra started niggling me. Eventually I succumbed. Bought the Ultra only ever use it for what the 8 did but love it. No going back.

Good for you. I always had the smaller AW until December. I decided that the 45mm is not too big for my 7 inch wrist. I traded two of my three, so I have a 45mm gold S8 and aluminum and a 45mm S7 blue. I love the blue color and Apple didn't bring it back for the S8 so I bought a refurb.

I hope the S9 isn't much better as I don't want to replace any of them for a while. 😃

Enjoy your new watch.

Meeeee too. I hope the 9 isn’t a giant leap like the other releases 🤞

The jump from 6 to 8 was nice for me, but I got antsy and ended up selling the 8 and getting an ultra because it made my brain chemicals do a good thing 😅
Yeah forgot about the Ultra :p

No wonder the 8 didn’t really have any new things (other than Bluetooth 5.3 perhaps): all the effort was put on the ultra.

Actually picking up an Apple Watch Series 8 today.

I don't think I could handle the Ultra.
Until you see the ultra. ha ha. I want both for vastly different reasons. I want the Ultra for the durability for outdoor adventures. I want the 8 for the lighter smaller footprint for everyday wear and fitness. nobody said you can only own just one. Ha ha.

Picked up the Series 8 tonight and I have to say it's nice to own an Apple Watch again. Glad to see they added Nike faces to choose from.

Time to look for bands and debate if I should use the "always on" screen feature lol.

I have had it on since day one. That was one of the things I didn't like about Aw3. I want an always on screen, it dims but you can still see it no problem.

You need to really consider it mate, after I got the Ultra my Speedmaster and Rolex Explorer has been collecting dust. Guess they will stay great looking pieces but it does feel kind of silly to have two watches like that around unused

Is the Ultra vibration stronger ?

I went from the 4 to the 8. Mainly my other half gifted me the 8 and she is using my 4 at the moment. There’s no new usage for me between the 4 and the 8. I don’t know what  can do with the watch now for me to upgrade again!

I think there are some differences, not too many for a 4 yers evolution. More precise sensors, Always on Display, a wider screen and the keyboard are the main improvements according to me. And if you didn’t change the battery through all this years maybe it’s a bit worn out, so you can start with a new one (not many improvements on this side, just the fact it’s a new watch) I have a Series 6 and I don’t feel I need the new series (apart from battery drain), but I gave my wife a series 8 in place of a SE, Always On Display the main feature I think improves the experience and look. Series 3 to 4 was a big step though.

AOD is the biggest upgrade for me. I like being able to glance at the time without raising my arm to my face to see. Same goes for touchID vs faceID. Wish I still had touch ID on my phone. I hope they bring it back into the screen of the iphone.

I ran the 6 without it for almost a year, and was only spending about 25% -33% battery everyday.

Then I kind of eased into AOD, until now I run it all day long everyday and use about 50% battery a day.

I’ve grown to appreciate it the few times I check the time without the need to flick my wrist. I’ve also come to really appreciate the fluidity of the whole process, whereas with no AOD, it’s that jarring black screen-to-on in wrist twist.

I’ve grown to appreciate not having the black screen anymore. It’s just more… comfortable. 🤷‍♂️

Very true. It’s been nominal increments every year of improvements.

But… that is also its strength: you don’t have FOMO every year a new watch comes out. You can buy an Apple Watch and know it’ll be a great watch and very good for a long time.

If they bring face ID camera to AW for the 9, I’ll eat my shirt. 🤣

Yeah on a day to day use though, those improvements you’re talking about aren’t really making my life any better. I use the watch for everyday general usage like notifications, some calls, a few iMessage responses, Apple Pay and fitness tracking, specifically strength training. For my usage the watch has been pretty much the same.

The always on display specifically didn’t really make my life any better. The 4 was fine with its glanceable implementation when you move the watch.

The battery as well seems to be holding strong for my other half even though I didn’t get it replaced.

Sent from a 4 which I broke to an 8 and love it. I love its screen, find it very colourful.

I went from the 7 41mm to the Ultra. Originally wasn’t going to as I was happy with my 7. At some point, I just realized I really wanted the Ultra. At first, it felt very big. I even had trouble with it fitting right. It took me about a month to get used to the size and it’s probably one of my favorite Apple devices now.

I just tried on my series 7 again earlier today. It looked like a small baby watch in comparison. And I can’t believe I wore that smaller size for the last 8(?) years. Love the look and weight of it though. And I’m sure I can get used to it again if my Ultra every breaks.

The battery is a huge improvement. I wear it now for sleep tracking (something I wasn’t able to do before). Realized how little sleep I get every night, started making the necessary adjustments to the sleep schedule, and I just feel a lot more active now.

I wish there was a way to customize vibrations.
