After some hemming and hawing I have decided not to pick up this iteration of the iMac. I have a pretty maxed out 2013 27 inch currently that is still performing well. My number one wish for a new iMac was a bump up to to 30-32 inches.

I use the iMac for editing, work, and as a tv. I find that 27 is ok up close but becomes pretty small as a media consumption device. 32 would have been the perfect balance for me, and taken much better advantage of all those pixels.

I think I will go for a Mac mini, and a 4k tv as my next setup.

Lol, yep let's make the situation even worse than it is; going to 30" with that form factor would be interesting to say the least.

What makes you say that? I'm sure the iMac would scale to 32 inches with minimal changes

I can see how some people would be drawn to that size, I just hope that if Apple ever does it they don't decide to make 27" the smallest size as where my family has their iMac a larger one wouldn't fit.

I wish there was a 24", I would've chose that instead of 27".

Me too. For me its almost to big. Looking at it is really beautiful but ... 24 would fit me much better. But I'm not in the market for an iMac, just hoping there would be a 24 Thunderbolt display

Oh i would love to have the normal size of windows in a bigger screen, a 32 or 34 ...oh what a dream that would be :) working photos would be amazing.

I wish apple would have gone bigger then 27 inches for the 5k iMac

There seems to be a lack of 4k tvs with display port in. Only hdmi 2.0 which is not as good from what I have read. Hopefully next year there will be a wider selection. I think I have run my course with the iMac

If you budget $1000-$1500 on a 4k tv you can get name brand 30-40 inch right now. Add a 2014 mini for $1000 and you have a experience that will be more immersive then the 5k iMac.

I'm sure the prices will drop quite a bit over the next year

...but lets say i got a big 4k screen, would i be able to run that with a higher res than 2560*1600 ( as i do now on the 30 inch mac screen ) running a mac pro 3.1 with a 5870 card ?

price

This sounds good, defenetly something to consider with the prices here in Denmark.
the high end imac is priced at 26.000 kr ( without ram upgrade ) which equals about 4500 us d.
i will look into this.

It's really LCD panel manufacturing related - one of the big suppliers are producing this panel and selling it not only to Apple but Dell also, and probably more if they can get the production volumes and yields high enough.

If they make a 32 inch panel who knows whether Apple will want to house it in their sexy clothes, interfaces and call it a 32 inch iMac Retina or a TB2 display.

Mini doesn't support 4k60hz.
