i haven't been able to sync my iphone with my new itunes on my new laptop which i got last year. that is because I was afraid of losing music in the iphone because the music is not on the new laptop.

if i back it up before syncing it with the itunes on the new laptop, would it save all the music in the iphone in the laptop, so that i could mix the music in the iphone with the music in the itunes in the new laptop?

You need to move the music. Backups don't backup music or anything synced. Search there are threads with how and what to move music wise

You can transfer purchases from iPhone to new laptop that's what I did. The music and videos will get wiped off and pictures I think too?
I will have to move my files from my PC to the laptop so I can sync normally without losing any of the above :)
