According to one of those "YouTube" home-brewed videos, the i7 chip is recommended to users who will attach an external display (monitor) to their MBP.

Any truth in this?

I realize that people were hooking up external displays before the release of i5 / i7.

The extra VRAM is useful but only if you're driving a display with great resolution and doing something graphic intensive. For most of the people, it's not useful but without knowledge of your usage, it's hard to say
