Hey fellows,
I'm trying to figure out what normal ("safe") CPU / GPU heat and fan speeds are for the 27'' i7 iMac. I'm using iStatpro to get a reading.
I haven't had much of a problem with it so far... the top of the computer gets very hot, but I understand that it's part of the design and it doesn't concern me.
What did concern me is what happened a short while ago while playing Modern Warfare. I've seen the GPU diode and heat sink get up to 120 C while gaming, which sounds pretty hot to me. I just experienced a sudden huge increase in fan speed (and noise), and when I checked iStatpro the CPU heat reading said: "--" and the CPU fan was at about 4,000 RPM. It's about 65 F in my apartment, which makes me worry what's going to happen in the summer when it's 90 F in here.
To sum up, is anyone else getting similar heat / fan readings, or can someone educate me as to what is a normal / acceptable reading for these machines?
Thanks.
