I had sort of written off the iMac as a potential workstation for film and music making purposes, but the new Core i7 iMac with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB has me reconsidering that. I'm now wondering whether to get a 27" iMac or wait until 2010 and get a Mac Pro with Westmere (I can probably only afford a single-processor model, so 6 cores). Of course, Westmere will outperform the i7, but the iMac has the obvious cost savings associated with the 27" monitor. I'm wondering whether the iMac's performance will leave me satisfied ("good enough") or with a case of buyer's remorse, wishing I had waited and shelled out the extra cash for a Westmere Mac Pro.

I'll be using the following software: FCP3, Logic 9, 3ds Max, Vue, Poser, Photoshop and some other software related to filmmaking. Any advice appreciated.
