So I am thinking about replacing my 3 year old MacPro, there's nothing wrong with it, still runs like a champ with 16gb and ATi 4870, however, it's taking up a lot of space.

So whatever i replace it with i can pair it with q 24" cinema display (for the iMac it will be my 2nd display)

I no longer do heavy video editing, but still game heavily and do heavy data analysis (SPSS/PASW).

what do you think it a better choice for me?
how much faster it the new iMac than the MBP?

both solutions will be with SSD and 8gb-12gb...

You can put a hard drive AND a SSD in the new 27" iMac, so I'd get one of them. Also, the graphics are much more sophisticated, and it has optional quad-core CPUs, rather than the dual-core in the MBP. The IPS displays in the iMacs are gorgeous. Also, it takes more RAM, and can take advantage of the 1333MHz RAM because they have the memory conrollers inside the CPU, on the mobile i7's it is external and connected via the system bus of 1066MHz.
