So I'm looking to get a iMac for home use/gaming. I'm wondering if the i7 is worth the extra $200? Also, 8GB ram for $200 more? Is that worth while? Which is more worth while? Are both worth it? Like will I be able to notice a big difference/advantage? Thanks in advance.

Get i7 and buy RAM from third party and install it yourself, 2x2GB is less than 100$. CPU is not upgradeable so get the best you can but RAM can be added easily later on

Got a i7 2.8 GHz with 8 GB ram and it works very good with games ect so i would go for that option if i was you and wanted to use the mac for gaming options as well.

I haven't seen too many tests for 3D gaming, but the ones at barefeats suggested that both processors offered roughly the same performance.

However, as Hellhammer said, the CPU isn't upgradeable so I would spend the extra - not as if Heldrup regrets it :p

As mentioned, RAM is easily upgradeable and most would advise going third-party and adding it yourself.
