iBook and GarageBand

As a budding musician (well.. I like to make noises with my guitar!) the prospect of using Garageband seems too good to miss. However, i was wondering if there was any way of using Garageband on an iBook short of getting the m-audio interface?

or is it worth me forking out the extra for a 12" powerbook, which i am loathe to do despite the fact that i could get the student discount, and therefore obtaining a line-in and a faster computer?

A Powerbook would do a better job at GB than an iBook

Which iBook do you have? If its the G4 model you might be able to manage but if your still using a G3 then you won't be able to do alot of live recording etc, thats the case with my iBook

clockspeed matters here

The clock speed matters most in GB, so you would be nearly equal with a 14" ibook in garageband performance. Definitely use a g4 processor.
