ibook and power outage

this afternoon as i was charging my ibook in sleep mode, the power in my condo went out, and then resumed about 40 seconds later. I was slightly worried since my book was charging and usually a thing like that involves a power surge. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the ibook adapter provides surge protecton? also i had plugged it into a surge protector anyway... but its a really old and cheap one so i don't know what kinda protection it provides... any chance that my hardware could have been damaged?
