iBook Author Hyperlink/Bookmark problem

I have created a numbered list on the first page of a section that corresponds to headings in the subsequent body of the text. I can make the headings into bookmarks but when I select the text in the numbered list on the first page, it will not allow me to enable it as a hyperlink. I managed to successfully do this in Section 1, but now in Section 2 it will not work.
Any ideas - please?!

OK, poking around in various menus I saw that this list was defined as placeholder text. As soon as I unchecked that, I could then create hyperlinks.
