ibook battery says 22 hours

i have a g3 ibook here, and after having plugged in to charge for 4 hours, the battery meter on my menu bar still says only 12%, but three hours of life remaining. or, if it says 80%, i have 22 hours of juice. how do i fix this bullcrap?

Did you try a restart? My iBook G4 did a similar thing (except it showed 586 hours) and a restart fixed it.

If that doesn't work then try re-seating your battery (while it's shut down, of course) and maybe look into calibrating your battery and resetting your PMU.

if my MacBook was saying i had 12 hrs of battery life left, i wouldn't be complaining

How old is the battery? They start to get funny estimates after a few years of use.

With only Safari open, screen fully dimmed, wireless off, i get 6:05 estimated on my MacBook. As soon as i brighten the screen, and put the wireless on, it plummets to 3:05.
