A friend of mine just bought an iBook (a "Switcher" I might add), and had a question about the CD drive. He said that the tray only slides out half way on it's own, and he has to pull it out the rest of the way. I don't have an iBook, so I couldn't give him an answer. Does anyone know if that is normal, or is it defective?

I have an older iBook (500 mhz) with a combo drive. The eject mechanism only shoots the tray out 1/2 way as well. You need to slide the tray out the rest of the way to get it fully opened. There's no resistance during the second step.

As far as I'm aware, this is how all laptop tray-loading CD (or DVD) drives eject. My Toshiba does this and so do all other laptops that I've seen.

Tell your friend not to worry (unless there's resistance when he's sliding out the tray).
