iBook dropped and now combo drive doesn't work

My daughter dropped our g3 900 iBook recently. The computer seems to be ok except for the combo drive. Cannot be opened (tray). It still is recognized by the system but is inoperable. Was considering replacing it or using an external drive. Any suggestions?

Quite a good upgrade - you'll be able to burn DVD's too.
