Hi all,

Just wondered - is it usually possible to put any iBook 12" mobo in any other iBook 12"? I've just stripped down an iBook 700 to put an iBook 500 mobo in it... and the motherboard is physically too big to fit in.

Normally that would answer the question for me :D, but the 500 Mhz board is a DVT model, so may not be the same shape as a release 500 Mhz board.

The connectors are all in the same places, but the DVT board has ~5mm less space for the fan on two edges of the board. I'm wondering whether to get a 500Mhz model or if I'll hit the same problem.

Hi all,

I found the answer myself after a bit more googling - apparently the M6497 (500 Mhz/initial 600 Mhz release) have one logic board shape, and the later models have a different one, so the chassis is not compatible.

Also, the modem card from a 600/700 Mhz does fit the 500 Mhz board - later ones may not. The heatsink design changed with the change from a PPC 750cx to a 750fx so the 600/700 Mhz heatsink isn't any use either.
