Would going for a 7200rpm with 16mb cache be worth buying for an ibook g3 500mhz dual usb 640mb's ram...

The reason why i ask is because i was installing ram and dropped a screw inside, i spent a long time trying to get the machine apart and couldn't exceed without feeling like i was going to brake the plastic. So i was wondering would running the main os, from a OWC mercury on the go pro harddrive be worth it? Would the firewire 400 port power the drive, and can this ibook boot from it?

Preferably this one:

Thanks

That drive would work fine on your iBook. Your machine should boot from an external firewire drive, but I am not sure it will have much of an effect on your performance, and being an external drive, it will be a hassle to have connected all the time...

You could but it may not really be worth it for you. It is for the more experienced and risky, but for you it might be worth looking it to making a dell mini your hackintosh. There are a bunch of articles online on how to do so. It would also be a significant cheap upgrade to just find a 12" pb like this one at http://expercom.com/product_detail.html?PRODUCT_ID=563482. Don't invest in your ibook though. It has served you well and might be time to say goodbye

I would say it is time to replace it. If it has an AirPort card that is work $50-100 which is more than your computer is worth.
