Ibook g3 500mhz.

I just bought a Ibook g3 500mhz. The specs are 10gb harddrive, 128mb of ram, air port card. I hear the maximum amount of ram the machine can take is 640mb. So I could only put a 512mb stick of ram in?

My plans for this machine are word processing, and surfing the net. Will this machine be able to play youtube videos, and possibly online game like from pogo.com?

What is the maximum harddrive in space and speed that I can buy for this ibook, what speed can it handle such as 4200, 5400, 7200 rpm?

What version of Mac osx would run the best?

It will not play YouTube videos smoothly -- they will be choppy.

There are 2 versions of the 500mhz model. One with 64mb and one with 128mb soldered to the motherboard. You are correct that you can add a 512mb PC100/133 sodimm to max the memory. The largest 2.5" IDE ATA-6 drive is a Western Digital 250gb 5400rpm drive found here. Just saw that they have a Western Digital Ultra ATA100 320gb . I don't see any reviews on that one but the 250gb is probably your best best.

It's going to struggle with Flash sites like youtube.com because of the slow CPU. Also 8mb of video memory doesn't help either.

If you plan on using Tiger, which will run good if you max out your memory, you should upgrade the HDD too as you will only have a few GB's left.
