I currently have an iBook G3 that is almost four and a half years old. I was wondering that if I got a Macbook soon, would it be as powerful and age the same way my iBook did back in its hayday? Thanks.

I would have to say: YES!

As long as Apple continues to make great software that runs on dilapidated hardware, that is.

I have not used an iBook G3 before but I have used an iMac G3 and I own a MacBook. When comparring both, the MacBook is much, much, MUCH faster then the G3. You will love it.

I think overall hardware obsolescence has slowed slightly, especially for Macintosh. Vista has accelerated aging for PCs a bit, but in my experience, OSX actually runs a bit better on older macs than earlier versions. I threw tiger on a G3 imac just because i had an extra family pack license, and it really sped up compared to 10.1.

You did all you can to delay obsolescence by investing in an intel based mac, the last G4 iBook won't last as well as your macbook will.
