So after fighting with it for a few days and several clean installs later, I traced my iBook's trouble to a bad airport socket, which I guess in other words equates to a faulty logic board. It all started with extremely slow booting. When the desktop finally loaded it refused to load all the right side menu bar items (clock, volume, displays, airport, etc..) Installing was even stranger. For example it took 10 minutes for it to type in the network name in the setup assistant. I watched it add a letter about every minute, heh.

After doing the usual startup alphabet soup, disk utils and several clean installs I finally started pulling hardware thinking it may be bad ram. But nope, 3 airport cards later no luck. So basically this is my iBooks Eulogy.

You were good to me 'Splat'
You kept me company; got me through the tough times
But now you will go to a better place
Spending your waning days as glorified (albeit ethernet tethered) remote control for my G5

Time to start thinking about a Mac Book Pro.
