Yes. Technology progressed in the last 7 years a lot with displays.
It just might not be as good as a MBP display.
I have an iBook G4 and bought a MacBook last summer (the white one), and although the span between both machines is shorter than the one you asked about, I can definitely see a progress to the better on the MacBook's display.
Brighter, more saturated, more colour accurate (in comparison), ....

It's not a statistical statement. Just a reversed fact maybe, as the MacBooks are brighter, and not the iBooks. Maybe it was sarcasm.
