iBook G3 Failure

Ok so my friend has an iBook G3 with the disk loading tray. When I start it up I get a small dark grey screen that says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button" in four languages. I would try reinstalling the OS but he got my CD stuck in there. Does anyone know what to do aside from taking it to Apple?
