Hello,

I have an g4 ibook 800 which is displaying some strange behavior with its backlight. When the machine is turned off the backlight stays on (the apple logo is lit and the screen is grey instead of black). Even if the machine shuts off normally the backlight can come on hours later.

I had this problem before and resetting the PMU and resetting the nvram solved the issue, I tried these procedures again with no luck.

I bought this machine refurbished from Apple in June, since the first manifestation of this problem, my 90 day support has expired so I would appreciate any help.

I'm still under the 1yr warranty do I need to have my machine serviced?
Unfortuntly the nearest service center is almost 100 miles away so I really don't want to send it in to Apple if I can avoid it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Apple will take care of you very quickly. They'll get you a box overnight and probably get it back to you before the weekend. Hey, you've got a two year old machine still under warranty for a year, with the possibility I think of extending it for another two years, what a deal! They need to give you a new screen or something. Good deal -- just send it in
