ibook G4 battery exchange

Hi everyone.
My ibook G4 is around 4 years old, and the battery is one of the ones that can apparently be exchanged due to some overheating problem or something. Only, it's just died on me. Will it still be eligible to be exchanged? I've only just learned about the recall because I was searching around for a new battery, and it would be great if I could get one for free! Let me know what y'all think...

I'm about 75% sure it's still open, but you have to deal directly with AppleCare - not a Genius Bar.

Be prepared to give your serial number etc etc

If your serial numbers coincide I am sure Apple will replace your battery free of charge. Since it is a safety issue I think it doesn't matter if your warranty expired.
