Just thought I'd share my experience with using a 2005 iBook G4 in 2019.

The screen is okay, it had a very warm almost Sun faded look to it, but changing the color profile to Generic RGB made it much cooler and closer to my 15" PowerBook. The screen doesn't feel very cramped due to the taller aspect ratio, which was a problem with the 11.6 inch Air. The only issue I have, is ghosting, When I move a Finder window around, it ghosts terribly, leaving a large trail. Is this normal for these models? My 2006 MB and PBG4 have some, but nothing this bad.

The speakers are okay, but nothing great. A kid I've seen on YouTube who collects PPC systems said that the iBook G4 was the best sounding computer he owned, which was weird to me. Much better than the 06 MB though. Port selection is nice, only thing I'd wish for is SD.

I have Tiger and Leopard on it, but I prefer to use Tiger. Runs faster than Leopard, and I prefer the look on these white machines. Currently using TenFourFox, but it's quite slow. I'm going to try the tweaks from @eyoungren to help speed it up, but I fear that it won't be a huge improvement on such an underpowered machine. I'm willing to deal with it though, because I'm not a huge web user.

Overall, it's not a terrible machine today, I'd even wager to say it's better than a Chromebook. Definitely a good starting point for people looking to get into PPC Macs. I'd be interested in hearing your experiences with these, or the PBG4 12". I typed this post on the iBook, I usually post from my Intel iMac.

Speedy, reliable little things. Built like a tank too.

They're especially great with maxed RAM, SSD, and heavy OS optimization. :)

Definitely are strong. The early MacBooks had terrible quality in comparison. I must say though, the hard drive is not easy to replace. I actually broke a 2003 iBook trying to replace the HDD, one of the few times I have damaged a machine I have worked on.

I used an iBook G4 12” 1.2ghz as my portable all through Highschool (graduated 2013). That thing was awesome. I never had any problem doing anything on it. Unfortunately I sold it back then.
I got another one but I also have a plethora of G4 PowerBooks I use instead.
I use my Mac Pro a lot because it’s lightning fast, but honestly I haven’t used an x86 laptop in... probably over a year. I’ve been using either my 12” or 15” 1.5Ghz PowerBooks. Totally doable.

I have a 1.33ghz 12" model running Debian. It's fast enough for use as an every day machine, and I do so for some light browsing, magazine viewing, and menu/recipe jotting.
