I have just fixed a iBook G4 PPC which has OSX 10.5 on it. The problem I have is that the person who had this laptop before me had messed with the airport card and damaged the slot so I am looking for a usb wireless card to replace this that I can purchase. Preferably small in size and available in the UK any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anything with the Ralink RT2500 chipset should do fine.

Many thanks for that quick reply. Can you suggest any specific cards I could search for in the shops.

RedCroissant has this adapter (Part Number: PL-H5DN-3070).

I have a little Netgear adapter which is the size of a tiny dongle for a mouse. I would need to find it but it works well.

Thanks V much the Netgear one sounds like the size I would like to go for

Thanks so much for all your help and quick replys.

No problem. I haven't used the card in a while. I do remember it works only on Leopard!

Essentially anything on the RT2500 chipset should work in 10.4 or 10.5. I have never used Panther (10.3) with a wireless adapter.

Something to note is that you will only have one USB port left and it will be tight with any dongle. Perhaps repairing the slot would be better.

I got a USB card for $7 from china that claimed full PPC compatibility. I was very sceptical, but went for it anyway. Came with a 100% PPC compatible CD installation and works perfectly on my PMG5 :)

Morale of the story, China.

Yes, almost everything are made here, and cheap. But not things with apple trademark though. Old PPC Macs' prices are double the prices of the ones in the US.

Oh I was only talking about third party peripherals from non name brand companies. Not Apple products.

Many Thanks for all the replies and support. I ordered the NEtgear WMA-1000M as recommended and it came today. It is working wonderfully. I can't thank you all enough.

Only by about 4mm so looks really nice and allows me to use a Bluetooth USB dongle next to it as well

I use the trackpad for the mouse and then remove the bluetooth dongle when I need to use external storage.

I just posted a thread about finding wireless adapters for my Mac running Leopard. I found this old thread and was excited when I heard about the Netgear card, so I went on Amazon to order one.... only to find out that they don't sell them :( I'm imagining this is because it's probably obsolete by now? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

You can find lots of obsolete and no longer sold stuff on eBay if you search for it. :D

eBay will have it...
