My iBook G4 will not boot even from DVD.
Boot with option does not show the hard drive, but shows the Tiger dvd.
Memory access error shows at open boot.
How can I get this thing to boot?

Sound like your HDD is bad or came loose in the machine.

Either that, or there's some corrupt data on the drive preventing it from being bootable. That could prevent it from starting up and showing in the menu. Personally, I'd try booting the thing up in target disk mode and see if I can connect it to another computer.

Re install Tiger. There is some issue with 10.4.11 on PPC machines. I don't get it, but some people have had problems on G4s and G5s with 10.4.11

Oh, I see. You tried using a USB hard drive... not sure how I missed that the first time around. I don't believe the iBook G4 is able to boot from USB hard drives, only FireWire. You said you could boot from the install DVD? Does it boot fully?

It does not boot at all. from OS dvd it goes to open firmware prompt with memory access error
