i just went to teh local apple store, and noticed the ibooks now have a cheep feeling plastic and a white hinge, even on the top-of-the-line 14". is this new? i liked teh metal hinge better

obviously, i am living under a rock

It's not cheap plastic, it's the same hinge only it's white.

It's coated in some material...like the inside of the iBook keyboard/mouse trackpad.

It's not any differnet or cheaper.

The new ibooks have a completely white acrylic case (not clear over white) and a white inside where ever things used to be silver.

Yeah, I noticed this too, I don't know if the older ibooks feels cheap too, but I tried out the 12" ibook in the store and it felt plasticky.
