Hello. I have an ibook 500mhz g3 (its white, has two usb ports) and the power adapter's tip broke off!! ( I hope not in the computer itself, but I figure I would be able to easily see it if it did. I went to apple's website and I can use the current one, but its 80 dollars!! Just for a power cord!! Is there any other types of adapters I could use?
Thank you,
David

I wouldn't if I were you - I'm not an Apple Zealot by any means, I've had my fair share of problems - but if I were you I'd get the official one. You don't say where in the world you are, but I'm sure if I went down to the london (my local) Apple Store and explained the situation they'd sort me out with something - whether free or discounted... Plus there's always the fact that you're running a laptop which is several years old... things are bound to break!

Then again, I was surprised with the price of some of their accesories, such as an American adapter plug component so I could use my Powerbook brick in the states would have cost me a lot - so in the end I used a 3rd party adapter - sparks flew every time i plugged it in, but I was only there a few days...

Macally has one, that I imagine will work pretty good. It's specifically for the Mac (and it's white too!), so it's not one of those jack-of-all trades AC adapters that has to do different power levels, etc.

I think it's around 40 bucks-
