I had my headphone jack break off in the audio-out and then damaged the audio-out trying to retrieve it.

1. Is this machine finished as far as sound is concerned?
2. If not, can it take the machine apart and replace the audio-out? I read I would be able to on certain iBooks. I want to know if I can with mine (specs below).
3. This a long shot because I may already know the answer. But, can I just buy a USB adapter and use headphones this way? Or, (cringe) do I already have to have a USB sound card?

Specs from everymac...

Please answer my questions.

Thank you in advance!

I'd just get a USB sound card if you need audio in and out. I ether you can get one fairly cheap.

I'm sure any that claim Mac compatibility will be fine but I can only vouch for the iMic as it's the only one I have owned. I had an MDD with a broken audio out port a few years back and bought an iMic.

They work as any true Mac device should... seamless.
