This sounds like fun! Maybe we could have a sweepstake!

- 12" model will have 1.5GHz G4, 14" model will have 1.67GHz G4. Both will have 167MHz FSB.
- 512Mb standard. Probably all soldered onto the motherboard, leaving the second slot free, but I wouldn't bet on this.
- 12" model will have 40Gb hard drive, 14" model will have 80Gb.
- Some sort of video hardware upgrade. I don't have enough knowledge in this area to be specific, but I think it would be fair to assume that it will have 64Mb VRAM and support core image.
- An increase in display resolution and Superdrives across the line are possible, although I'm a bit less confident on these aspects.
- Built in bluetooth.
- Price drop of $US100 - 200.
- No change in form factor (even though it's overdue, they will wait for the Intel units before doing this).

If you're thinking that these specs are too close to the Powerbook, please bear in mind that I believe that the Powerbook will be updated at the same time. In terms of timing, I think that we'll be looking at Macworld Paris, or shortly after.

give me reflective wide screen display and dual display

drop price
superdrive in 12 inch ibook
update the powerbooks too
better trackpad for the ibook (the powerbook type)
more hdd space
more ram
BETTER BATTEYR LIFE (the more the better hey)
iPotato
cheaper (in price)

Give me a NON-reflective widescreen display with a brighter backlight - can't stand the glare off those reflective screens and they're useless in our Aussie sunlight.

Better graphics
Better battery life
Bigger HDD in the 12" model
Superdrive options across the board
Better speakers
Cheaper
More RAM
Better Keyboard

I find these specs unlikely, especially the CPU and GPU, cuz iBooks will be veru close to Powerbooks, even if PBs will go to e600 or whatever the new freescale cpu is called.

As for me, I think that new iBooks will look like this:

12" model: 14" model:
1.33 GHz G4 1.42 GHz G4
40 GB HD 60GB HD
512 MB RAM 512 MB RAM
1024x768 screen 1152x864 screen
GPU that supports Core Image, not necessarily 64MB (maybe GeForce FX5200?)

12"
1.33GHz Freescale 4778
166MHz FSB
512MB memory on motherboard
40GB Hard Drive
64MB ATI Radeon 9600M graphics
Superdrive as standard
Bluetooth and Airport Extreme as standard
£649 / $899

14"
1.5GHz Freescale 4778
166MHz FSB
512MB memory on motherboard
80GB Hard Drive
64MB ATI Radeon 9600M graphics
Superdrive as standard
Bluetooth and Airport Extreme as standard
£799

14" Widescreen
1.5GHz Freescale 4778
166MHz FSB
512MB memory on motherboard
80GB Hard Drive
64MB ATI Radeon 9600M graphics
Superdrive as standard
Bluetooth and Airport Extreme as standard
1280x768 14" widescreen display
£899

^^^^That IS DEFINITLEY not going to happen ;) ^^^^

12"
1.33GHz PowerPC G4
512MB RAM (256MB on board, 256MB in the empty slot)

1024x768 screen display
Combo Drive
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth as an option

14"
1.46GHz PowerPC G4
512MB RAM (256 on board, 256 in empty slot)
60GB HDD standard

There is no way in hell there is going to be a widescreen iBook, yeah right!

Not much of a update, but I'd have to place my bet here too.

12 inch: 14 inch:
12.1" OLED 24 billion color display / 14.1" OLED 24 billion color display
1.4GHz PowerPC G4 / 1.53 GHz PowerPC G4
512 MB RAM on motherboard / 1 GB RAM on motherboard
60 GB 7200 RPM HD / 100 GB RPM 7200 HD
16X DL SuperDrive
the PowerBook's keyboard, but in white
2.1 speaker orientation / 5.1 speaker orientation
Line-in jack
PC-Card slot also compatible with iPods and the iPhone
built in Bluetooth 2.0 and AirPort Extreme
1.0" thin
4 lbs / 5 lbs
6 hour battery life (real usage)
windshield wipers for the screen
FireWire 800 (1)
FireWire 400 (1)

and got 10Gb on the HD, .1Ghz on the CPU, 64mb graphics & an extra 256mb of ram.

..you gotta come down sometime!

My money is on this line up. Except I think Bluetooth will be standard.

My educated guess is that the new iBooks will get:

1.33 GHz (12") and 1.42 GHz (14")
512 MB RAM on the MoBo.
40 GB HD at the low end.
GeForce FX5200 (64MB).
Bluetooth standard.
Possibility of BTO SuperDrive on 12".
Same "500" form factor.
Price drop of ~$100.

I'd like to see higher res. screens (1280x960), but I somehow doubt it will happen.
Widescreen is unforseeable.
I also want Apple to un-cripple the screen spanning.

I added that on as the far-out option.

However for the other ones, maybe with the option of a Combo drive on both of them for another £30 / $50 off the price, I think they need to have that type of specification to actually have a decent specification come the end of the year.

This is not an update. This is the current specs. This must be a joke post.

These specs would be well worth it IMO. A 5400 RPM drive is worth probably more than the lousy speed bump.

Ok, guys... First there will be no price drop becuase they dropped the price the last time they updated them. It was $1100, and they dropped to $999. So there is no way there will be a price drop. Also, there is no way there will be Superdrives standard in the 12". Here's the specs I think will happen:
1.33Ghz G4(12")
256MB RAM
40GB 5400RPM
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth built-in
64MB of VRAM
Combo
$999

1.5Ghz G4(14")
256MB RAM
60GB 5400RPM
Airport Extreme
Buletooth built-in
64MB of VRAM
Combo
$1299

1.5Ghz G4(14")
256MB RAM
80GB 5400RPM
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth built-in
64MB of VRAM
Superdrive
$1499

;) aka "no updates, boys"

So by saying "no updates" you are saying that there will never be an update in the future?
This thread is not saying "iBook specs for next tuesday" but rather for the next updates, whenever they may come. This is either a stupid post or a bad joke.

Predictions for the next iBook. I take that to mean sometime soon, as in before intel. I don't believe there will be an update before the intel iBooks come out, sorry.

Could be though, just my opinions. In the occasion that there is an update I don't think they will change the graphics card, just a processor boost to 1.33ghz and the 40GB HD.

I think ITASOR was trying to say that it will be a while before they are updated. And because it will take so long, 'who knows?' and 'who cares?'. At least thats how I feel.

Edit: Better yet, hear it straight from the source ^
