iBook to Laptop via ethernet cable?

To network my iBook and Laptop together that share the same table could I simply just run an ethernet cable from them both or do I need a special crossover cable?

Unless the iBook is one of the old colourful ones (clamshell) then you just need the ethernet cable and it doesn't have to be crossover. Assuming the other laptop is Windows-based, you might want to check out our networking guide.
