I am running El Capitan on a MacBook Pro Retina, and would like to use iBook as a reader.
The problem is that, whenever I launch it, it displays a dialog box where it asks to "Sign in to download books from the iBooks Store". I do not need that feature, as I am planning to use this application only as a reader. However, this box re-appears often, so I would like to get rid of it. To make it happy, I did put my Apple password in it, but then, the application goes into an infinite loop: the dialog box stays, seems to be waiting for some reply, and does not give me the hand back. It does not accept or reject my password. The only way is to kill iBook from the Task Manager.
So, for me, this application is basically unusable for my intended use: a simple reader. It would not be usable either if I wanted to buy books, as it does not let me log in.
I also tried to check the "Disable the iBooks store" box in the Parental control tab (how ironic!), but it does not prevent the stupid log in dialog box from opening every now and then.
Is there a way to make iBook usable ?
