Hi all,
I have an iBook G4 with MacOS Tiger and I recently got a new MBP17", so I wanted to migrate the data in my old iBook into the MBP. I tried the Migration Assistant but the FireWire connection always stopped when the process had just been initiated (the FireWire logo on my iBook screen suddenly freezes instead of keeping moving around the screen, and I can only shut down the iBook in order to get out of the migration assistant, or the finder if I was browsing through the iBook's hard drive). So far, that was the only problem. I tried to investigate to see why this happened, and since I got a report on the Migration Asst. about some GoogleEarth files, I thought that might be the problem (I copy the reports below, in Spanish, but I think you get the idea)

So the thing is that I didn't even have GoogleEarth in my iBook anymore! I deleted it long time ago as it didn't work properly, I forget what the problem was but I thought it was thoroughly erased. Apparently not. So I thought if I installed the newer version of GoogleEarth I might be able to get over this problem (although the FireWire stall problem might not be related to this at all, I've never had problems with it so it was my only guess).
Now comes the thorny part. The problem is I was twitching so many things that I don't remember exactly what happened, but the result is that, after installing GoogleEarth again, and having some trouble while doing so, I decide to delete it again, I try to do the migration again, and it's a no-go. But things get even worse: now my iBook won't even boot. I can see it if I open it as a hard drive through fireWire (T when rebooting), although it will eventually get stuck and I have to shut down and reboot+T again. But if I reboot normally, it won't get past the blue screen right after the Mac logo+wheel gray screen. The mouse appears, then disappears, and that's the end to it.
I've tried repairing the disc with DiskUtility, both with the original MacOSX CD and the DiskUtility on my new MBP through FireWire connection, before it gets stuck (no problems found), repaired the permissions (same same), reset the firmware (reboot+opt+cmd+o+f, then reset-all), reset the PRAM (reboot+opt+cmd+p+r), I've tried to reboot in Safe Mode (it gets stuck in the Apple logo+wheel screen for a really, really long time, then lets me enter my password, and then gets stuck again in a blue scree, this time with a default desktop background image, then the plain blue screen, and all the while a repetitive sound in the hard drive as if stuck in reading something, which is the same sound as when I reboot normally and gets stuck), and tried DiskWarrior (but it won't work because of the FireWire issue, I think).
I've pulled out the logs from the iBook library and, although there are many things, I will just show you the ones related to GoogleEarth, since it seems like the origin of the problem.

One more thing: the rolling sound on the iBook's hard drive is something that has been going on for a long time, for instance when I opened Safari, it would get the multicolored wheel out, and this sound would start as the whole computer was paralyzed, but eventually it would move on and I could use Safari just fine (of course, since this happened every time, I switched to FireFox). The noise it makes now when stuck in the blue screen is the EXACT same noise as back then. That's why I think it's related to GoogleEarth, because my sturdy, 6-yr-old iBook had been working fine until I tried to migrate the data and the GoogleEarth dylib problem arose.
I would appreciate any help with this, since I can't really get anything out of the iBook. The FireWire connection will be interrupted constantly, and I can try to backup all the info by rebooting repeatedly and copying manually but it's a pain and some parts of the system just will cause the FireWire connection problem to appear quicker, hence giving me no time no copy them.
Thanks in advance, if you need any further info I'll be glad to provide what I can.
