Yes, iBooks on OS X would be great.
I still don't find the scrolling they were talking about.
The example was with a Japanese text, so maybe it's just for specific regions depending on how they read.

PDF rendering is still painfully slow with the iPad 3. Looks like it isn't going to get any better…
