iCal, Address Book syncing

I have no real iPhone experience so I'm wondering if syncing goes both ways for your iPhone and Mac in regards to iCal and your Address Book?

If you put calendar info into your iPhone does it update your Mac's iCal and vise versa?

Same for vcard information in your Address Book does syncing go both ways without lose of info?

Edit: Also, where would I post here about the same with Blackberry and a Mac. I'm looking into both phones.
