iPod touch iCal alarms annoyance

My family share "Home" iCal calenders between our respective iTouches to keep on top of household scheduling. The problem is that I use alarms on my "Work" calender and even if my family have that calender unchecked the alarms still propagate to recheck the calender and alarm on their iTouch. My daughter deleted the link to my account yesterday after it rang during a class. Is there anything I can do to make the uncheck of an individual linked calender stick?
