iCal Alerts disappear after sync

Hi all

When I make an iCal event then go to 'show info' and add an alert with sound, hit apply then it syncs up with my gCal (as the calendar I am making the event for is the gCal one) once it finishes and I go back to show info my changes are undone.

Can anyone suggest why or how to force alerts to show?
