ical - cannot accept invitation on CalDAV

I receive quite a few invitations. Why can't ical accept these into a CalDAV calendar? I can accept them on a local calendar - but why not CalDAV. Doesn't this make Google Calendar useless to the Apple world?

Is there a better calendar application?
