iCal default alarms

I made my first Mac converts! :)

So far, I have been able to help them out with all their switcher issues.
They are getting heavy use out of the 'i' apps, but there is one issue with iCal that seems so rediculously simple there must be a way around it.

If someone wants a default setting for every iCal entry (say, an alarm and message automatically on every entry) how would you set it up?

I cant find any setting for changing defaults.
