I've noticed for a while now that the iCal app doesn't have an indicator light after I open it and then close it (but not Quit). Any explanation for this behavior?

I noticed the same thing. I have iCal set to launch on startup (but have the window hidden) and the indicator light is on. But once I open it and then close the window, it goes away.

I'm running ML but I noticed the same behavior on Lion. I don't know why...seems weird...

In Lion/ ML there are a few apps that do this (Calendar, notes, reminders app store etc) so this is normal behavior. The app (I think) is still running in the background until you quit it, though.
