Hope anyone can help me.

I have entered some appointments in iCal and want to invite attendees. Some matches appear when I type part of the name of the attendee. When I select the attendee, it puts it in the box with the blue lozenge (or pill) shape around it. Somehow when I save the appointment, the "boink" sound is played and the attendee is deleted. No invitation is sent, but the appointment is there. I noticed after repeated attempts that in the pill box with the name of the attende the "~" symbol appears. This is the same symbol that appears in iMail when the account is offline. The strange thing is though that I'm completely online, and there is no reason to assume that the attendee cannot be invited.

I have restarted iCal and tried entering a new appointment and trying again. All to no avail. In addition the attendee has been invited numerous times, so this also cannot be the problem. Can anyone help me?
