iCal, Mail, Address, rejecting password

I recently changed a number of passwords including email acc which is linked to iCal Mail and Address on snow leopard.
a day later I installed Maverick on MBP. I do not understand ( advanced newbie level here -) ) keychains etc.. at any rate, I can enter data in these native OS apps but I keep receiving requests for my password, which when entered, is summarily rejected!
