iCal not displaying/loading properly?

My wife is having problems with iCal. When she launches the app, the iCal window doesn't seem to refresh properly; there are black areas that only display when moused over. Also, not all of her events are loading.

What's the best way to fix this? Reinstall OS X? Nuke some preference somewhere?
