iCal problem on a 10.4 Mac upgraded to 10.6

Hi learned folks

As the title says, I upgraded to 10.6, including iWork '09, this week and am pleased with most things except that iCal only has 2-3 of the individual calendars loaded. The other 3-4, which are more important to me, are ticked but not showing.

Can anyone steer me on this ?

A long shot to me suggests I should reload '08, but is that possible and would it work ?
