iCal reminders not happening

I have a new G5 system of about 3 weeks (Quad-core 3Ghz, 5GB Ram, 250 GB HD, OS 10.5.3), love it. However iCal is not functioning properly, never had this prob on other systems. About 95% of the time reminders do not happen as set and it's killing me. I gave up that part of my brain a few years ago and now rely totally on the iCal reminders. I couldn't find anything in the threads so thought I would ask here. Any help would be great because I'm missing all kinds of appts. Thanks.

Not sure what the issue is, but have you considered using Google Calendar? Its fantastic, you can use it anywhere you can access a PC, adding items is really easy and you can also set up numerous email and text reminders (as long as your mobile carrier is listed). You can also view your Google Calendar in iCal, just not add reminders directly. There's also a Google Mail/Calendar app which will sit in your menu bar.
