iChat audio problem

I have been using iChat to talk with my friend but can only use the text feature. When I try to audio chat we get the message asking to except the call but when we try to except, nothing happens. Eventually it says that the other person did not respond. I wanted to get an iSight camera but I need to sort this problem out first. We both have reasonable powerful Macs, broadband connections (tried dial-up as well). I've tried turning the firewall off. My friend seems to be able to audio chat with other people so I presume it's a problem at my end.
