All,
I want to use iChat AV to talk to my family back home in the UK while I am away in Sweden. I have ensured my personal firewall is open as per the KB document 93208. However when trying "tryichatav" or "tryaimpc" to test I cannot get a response. I suspect the ISP has blocked the ports I need.
My less than helpful people here say that opening up any more ports on their firewall will expose us to viruses and attacks!
So I have three questions for those who know routers, firewalls and hack attacks better than I.
1. What do the ports reccomended be opened (5060, 5190, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403) actually do.
2. How from my computer behind the firewall see which ports are open?
3. If these ports are open what if any "attack" could take place and what would it do?
I want to use this information / evidence to convince those who are not so helpful that they can request these be opened up with no risk to their LAN.
Thanks in advance.
John
